The first twenty-four hour fully public accessable AED has been sited in front of The Hockey Club at Footes Lane in St Peter Port, Guernsey and covers the area of The Garenne Stand, football pitch, athletics track and the adjacent rugby pitch and Rugby Club. Footes Lane is a major sporting venue in Guernsey which regularly hosts Guernsey Football Club Home matches.

Should an emergency call be received from this vicinity indicating the likelihood of a cardiac arrest the caller can be directed towards the AED which is situated in a box on the front of an illuminated three metre high green sign.

On approaching the illuminated sign there are clear instructions for the caller to dial 999 to summon an ambulance first before accessing the AED.

The Control operator will then give the caller the access code needed to open the drawer to gain access to the AED.

This AED is due to be officially launched on Sunday 14th April, prior to a Guernsey FC football match, by Fabrice Muamba, a retired professional footballer who played for Arsenal, Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers as a central midfielder. In March 2012, Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest during a televised FA Cup match between Bolton and Tottenham Hotspur, from which he recovered despite his heart having stopped for more than an hour.
