St John is inviting islanders to find out about the many volunteer roles within the organisation at an Open Day on 1 November.

The theme of the day, ‘Can you fill this space?’, aims to show islanders the many ways their skills and interests could be used to make a difference to the community.

The Open Day takes place at St John headquarters on the Rohais on Sunday 1 November from 1 to 5 pm.  Current volunteers will showcase the different areas of the organisation, ranging from support roles to those on the frontline emergency service. This includes community first responders, administrators, fundraisers, first aid volunteers, youth workers, patient transporters as well as cliff rescue volunteers.

While first aid is an essential part of the service provided by St John, there are also many non-clinical positions available including youth work, logistics and administration. The roles require varying levels of time commitment and are all vital to ensure the organisation continues to provide a life-saving service to the island. Most of the roles can fit around full time employment and anyone over the age of 18 years is able to put themselves forward.

New recruits will be given training, support and insurance completely free of charge to learn the necessary skills and build confidence for their volunteering role.

Two thirds of St John members are volunteers.  This is one of the core principles of St John around the world and has been since its formation in the 1800’s and St John Guernsey is no exception.
