The St John marine ambulance has been given 200 litres of free fuel thanks to a member of the public and fuel suppliers Rubis.

Earlier this year at the Guernsey Marine Traders Boat Show Rubis Channel Islands ran a competition to win a quantity of marine fuel.

3rd prize winner Christine Brassell very generously donated her prize of 100 litres to the Flying Christine III. Another prize winner Jenny Ridley gave her fuel to the RNLI Lifeboat the Spirit of Guernsey.

Ben Mahy and Marcus Honey from Rubis presented the St John prize to St John Chief Ambulance Officer Mark Mapp, Senior Officer Dave Welbourne and marine ambulance volunteer Tim Slann.

Lifeboat Coxswain Buz White and Operations Manager Chris Harvey collected the prize on behalf of the RNLI.

Chief Ambulance Officer Mark Mapp said: “We’re really grateful to Christine for supporting St John by donating her prize to the Flying Christine. The marine ambulance provides a vital lifeline for the Bailiwick, allowing paramedic skills and pre-hospital care to be taken to patient in other islands. This gesture is very much appreciated. I’d also like to thank Rubis for their support and the generous offer of doubling the prize.”

Ben Mahy from Rubis added: “As leading marine fuel suppliers in the Channel Islands, Rubis was delighted the prizes were going to such worth charities and we will be doubling the prize volumes to each of these vessels.”
