Emergency Medical Technician Jen Linfield is representing Guernsey in the 2019 Natwest Island Games in Gibraltar.

Jen, who works for the emergency ambulance service, is one half of the Women’s Beach Volleyball team taking part in the event this month. 2019 is the first time beach volley ball has been played in the history of the contest, however Jen is no stranger to the Island Games having competed in the indoor volleyball on five previous occasions.Jen said: “The Island Games is always a great experience. It is a chance to play at a higher level against different opponents The atmosphere is always amazing and it really lives up to the title of the friendly games”.

Her team-mate for the competition is long-term friend and playing partner Gemma Nicolle. The pair have been training at Port Soif as well as going on training camps to Jersey, Croatia and Tenerife.

“Gemma is the person who first got me into volleyball 15-years ago. We know how each other think and how we both play, so it is a good combination.”

Guernsey’s biggest challenge in the Beach Volleyball is likely to be from the Baltic Sea island of Saaremaa, however Jen says she is most looking forward to playing Gibraltar.

“It should be a great atmosphere with a big home crowd at the Nuffield court for the game.”
