Marine Ambulance back in Guernsey’s St Peter Port Harbour

At the request of the Coastguard, Guernsey’s Marine Ambulance responded to an emergency call 8 miles northwest of Guernsey in thick fog this afternoon. With very poor visibility throughout the journey the crew of the marine ambulance – Flying Christine III  – located a local fishing vessel on which a crew member had sustained a severe hand injury. A St John paramedic went on board the fishing boat and provided medical treatment to the casualty, who had suffered severe blood loss, stabilising him prior to being transferred onto the marine ambulance for the 30 minute journey back to Guernsey’s main harbour St Peter Port. The Flying Christine was met by an emergency ambulance at the harbour and the casualty accompanied by the paramedic was transferred to Guernsey’s General Hospital for further treatment. The St John Marine Ambulance is supported by donations and provides medical aid at sea to the smaller islands of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It is crewed by specialist marine volunteers and paramedics from the St John Ambulance & Rescue Service.
