Neil Robilliard has just joined St John as an Ambulance Care Assistant with the Patient Transport Service.

Neil who is now 59, had a long career in journalism and public relations before joining the ambulance service. He spent more than 40 years of what he describes as “mainly desk-based work” within a number of States departments and private organisations in Guernsey, but is enjoying his new, more active role “I have moved to a job that gets me out and about and enables me to provide assistance to elderly and less mobile people within our community” he said.

As an Ambulance Care Assistant Neil transports wheelchair users and other patients to and from hospital or the Medical Specialist Group for medical appointments and renal treatment. He also assists with stretcher discharges from hospital.

Neil has completed his training, which included first aid procedures, manual handling and driving assessments and is enjoying the new challenge. Neil added “Although only a few weeks into this new chapter in my life, I am finding it enjoyable and rewarding and I hope that I will be able to continue in this role for several years to come.

Neil is married to Caroline and has two children and five grandchildren.
