Following the success of last November’s St John recruitment day, over 65 people have come forward to train as a volunteer with more coming forward every day.

The event received a great amount of support from the exiting St John volunteers and employed staff who showcased what their roles entailed.

These potential new recruits have signed up to volunteer for a number of roles from providing first aid cover at events to administration support.  The first induction weekend for the new volunteers has already taken place and a second weekend has been organised for early in the New Year.

All new recruits will initially be trained in emergency first aid and will then go on to learn enhanced and specific skills needed for their particular volunteering role.

Vanessa Spiller, chief executive officer of the Commandery of St John, said: “We are delighted with the response so far but are still looking for more volunteers to join the organisation.  Volunteering with St John is a great way to give something back to the community, develop vital lifesaving skills and join a team of dedicated, like-minded people. Even if some of our new recruits are unsuccessful in completing their specialist training for any reason they will have been given the ability and confidence to deliver emergency first aid.
