Ambulance personnel have been nominated in the Rossborough-sponsored “Emergency Hero of the Year” category of the Guernsey Press Pride of Guernsey Awards. The nomination came from a grateful patient.

Emily Nuttall said paramedics had given her a great deal of support when she needed it. ‘Having been faced with many mental health and physical health challenges, I have at many times in the past needed the support of the ambulance service for treatment and for being taken to hospital,’ She said.

‘Every single technician, paramedic and other support staff have been there for me in my darkest of hours, have made me laugh through the pain, have reassured me and nothing has ever been too much for them. They have listened to me and given me the utmost care and respect at all times and have made my trips to hospital less traumatic and scary. Without this service I wouldn’t be here today and for that I’m most grateful.’

The Pride of Guernsey Awards are back for a third year, giving islanders their chance to recognise the individuals at the centre of our community.

Hundreds of nominations for islanders over the years have recognised everyone from sporting heroes who inspire success, to the waitress who makes a customer’s day and the many selfless carers and neighbours who contribute so much to island life.

After a public vote, the winners and runners up are then honoured at a glitzy special awards ceremony on 6 October.
