Representatives of St John Ambulance Guernsey have taken part in a memorial service to remember the lives of those lost at sea in Bailiwick waters.
The Chief Ambulance Officer, Mark Mapp placed a wreath at the annual Prosperity Memorial Service at L’Eree on Saturday on behalf of St John Ambulance Guernsey.
The service, which takes place around the granite memorial over-looking Lihou Island, is organised by the Guernsey Association of Royal Navy & Royal Marines and the Guernsey Merchant Navy Association and remembers the crew of the MV Prosperity which ran aground off the west coast 45 years ago and all those lost in Bailiwick waters.
The MV Prosperity sank after her engines failed on the night of 16th January 1974. She was driven into La Conchee Reef in stormy weather and sank with the loss of all 18 crewmen.
Mr Mapp was accompanied by Emergency Medical Technician Paul Philips who paraded the standard on behalf of the St John Emergency Ambulance Service. Wreaths were also by laid by representatives of other organisations including the RNLI.
Historically, the memorial service used to be held in November on Remembrance Sunday, but was moved to September to coincide with Merchant Navy Day. The service takes place year in what is known as the Prosperity car park in St Peters.
