Staff and volunteers from St John Guernsey came together with hundreds of fellow islanders including His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, the Bailiff and other dignitaries to pay their respects and lay wreaths to remember those who fell while serving their country.

Wreaths were laid at the Smith Street War Memorial by St John Ambulance and Rescue chief officer Jon Beausire representing St John Ambulance & Rescue Service accompanied by senior officer Malcolm Mechem.

St John Ambulance manager of recruitment and retention, Phil Ozanne, represented St John Ambulance Guernsey accompanied by cadet Ross Senior.

Jon Beausire also laid a wreath at the Prosperity Memorial at L’Eree headland in the afternoon accompanied by assistant chief officer Alison Marquis and standard bearer emergency medical technician Chris van Katwyk as part of a short service to remember merchant seamen who lost their lives.

St John volunteers provided first aid cover for the main Service of Remembrance together with parading their standards and taking part in the marching parade with other uniformed organisations and veterans.

The St John Ambulance and Rescue Service Standard Parade party was made up of acting station officer Paul Philips and emergency medical technicians Nick Peters and Dean Robilliard. The St John Ambulance party consisted of standard bearer Tony Robert accompanied by Wayne Robert and Alan Stevens.

St John Guernsey, along with the other emergency services, actively participates in these acts of remembrance each year and also played a large part during the Occupation years. St John provided an ambulance service but was also actively involved in the distribution of Red Cross food parcels when the population was heading towards starvation at the end of the war.
