Sark’s annual thanksgiving ‘Churches together in Sark’ sea service took place at Creux Harbour on Sunday (17 August 2014).

Residents and visitors braved rain showers to attend the open air service which thanks those who provide valuable emergency lifeline and passenger services to the island.

St John marine ambulance and crew also attended the service, accompanied by St John Knight Commander, Nik van Leuven, Jurat Jerry Girard and Chief Officer Jon Beausire. Music was provided by the Salvation Army.

An address was given by Sark’s Methodist minister Karen Le Mouton and Sir Richard Collas, Bailiff of Guernsey, gave the first reading

The RNLI Guernsey Lifeboat and marine ambulance provided a backdrop for the service in the small Sark harbour. Once the church service had finished members of the congregation were given the opportunity to look around the emergency vessels before they departed back to St Peter Port.

The Marine Ambulance ‘Flying Christine III’ responds to Sark on a regular basis throughout the year to transfer patients suffering with illness and injuries for further medical treatment in Guernsey.

Chief Officer of St John Ambulance and Rescue Service, Jon Beausire, said “It is a privilege to attend Sark’s annual sea service with the St John marine ambulance and we appreciate the thanksgiving for the medical treatment and medevacs, a service which we have been providing to this small island community for over 60 years.”
