Residents currently at Guernsey’s King Edward VII Hospital, which is a continuing care facility, will be moving to their new home on Casquets Ward on the Princess Elizabeth Hospital site (the local general hospital) tomorrow.

The King Edward VII has been part of island healthcare since 1902 when it first opened as a hospital to treat people with infectious diseases, a purpose it served for over half a century.

The move has been carefully planned with the assistance of St John and the Community Support Services Team.  Some of the benefits of the new facility include single rooms all with en-suite facilities, and all accommodation and recreational space is on one level making access much easier.  There is an enclosed garden and the continuing care wards, including Casquets Ward are naturally light providing a fresher environment for everyone.

All together 15 residents will be moved from the King Edward VII and approximately 40 clients who attend St Luke’s day centre, which is a social day care for the elderly, frail and physically disabled.  Residents will be moved during the course of the day, with the aim that everyone will be settled in their new home by 3.00pm.
