Guernsey’s St John Health Care Shop organised refresher training on a variety of hoists which are sold and available on hire by the shop.   The hoists prevent carers having to lift loved ones they are caring for in the community, either from a chair to a bed, or even in and out of a bath.  A representative from Invacare UK travelled to the Island to carry out the training, with staff attending from the Islands Health and Social Services Department along with staff from local nursing and residential homes.

The aim of using any manual handling equipment, such as hoists should be to reduce the risk of an injury to the carer to the lowest level possible.
