The St John Ambulance Guernsey is looking for a new co-ordinator for the Community Library.

The library is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and stocks a wide range of large and normal print books for people who are unable to access other libraries. As well as being open for lenders every Tuesday afternoon at the Rohais, the library also offers a delivery service for anyone who is unable to leave their home.

This is a voluntary role with the responsibility of co-ordinating volunteers on duty in the library each Tuesday and overseeing delivery of books to residential homes and individuals by volunteer drivers. If you love books and love helping people this could be a great opportunity for you. You will be involved with selecting and ordering new book from large print publishers.

The co-ordinator is also responsible for liaising with St John support staff, the Guille-Alles Library and other interested parties as necessary! Good communication and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to engage with library users and the wider public. You’ll also be involved in helping to build the public profile of the St John library.

The service has been running since 1949, initially operating from the homes of volunteers, before moving into a hut at the St John HQ. Today the service has a dedicated library room adjacent to the St John training hall on the Rohais. The charity was presented with the Queen’s award to Voluntary Service in 2011.
