Staff and volunteers from St John Ambulance Guernsey took part in the annual Liberation Day church parade on 9th May.

Deputy Chief Ambulance Officer Dean de la Mare and volunteer Alan Stevens carried the standards for the emergency ambulance service and the St John voluntary sections in the parade which took place on the St Peter Port seafront.

The parade which was accompanied by the Band of the Royal Armoured Corps and made up of visiting military personnel, cadets, veterans and the Chelsea Pensioners was inspected by the Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey Vice-Admiral Sir Ian Corder, the Bailiff of Guernsey Sir Richard Collas and visiting inspecting officer Sir Adrian Bradshaw.

Meanwhile the Chief Ambulance Officer Mark Mapp attended the church service at the Town Church with the heads of the other emergency services and island dignitaries.

More than twenty St John volunteers were also on duty, providing first aid cover throughout the day and into the event as thousands of islanders flocked to St Peter Port to celebrate the Liberation of the island from German occupying forces in May 1945.
