St John Ambulance Guernsey would like to thank international real estate advisor Savills for supporting the local St John Covid-19 Appeal.

St John received the donation as part of a programme of funding from Savills for charities including those directly relating to NHS projects for both front line workers as well as those impacted by the virus, care workers and care for the elderly, homelessness and food banks for vulnerable people, refuge and women’s aid, mental health and action for children.

Savills has an office in Guernsey and during the coronavirus pandemic Paul Watts, an Associate Director of Savills, volunteered as a member of the St John vehicle decontamination team, which was set up to support the Emergency Ambulance Service, freeing up clinical staff to respond to medical emergencies.

Paul Watts said: “I volunteered to deep clean ambulances because I really wanted to do something for our island community during the coronavirus crisis. St John provides so many services to the community, most funded from charitable donations, so I’m please Savills have been able to support the local appeal.”

James Sparrow, CEO of Savills UK & EMEA, says: “The impact of Covid-19 is enormous and the knock on effects for so many members of the community are immeasurable. We are proud many of our staff are currently undertaking voluntary work within their local communities and we wanted to enable them to nominate charities they would particularly like to see supported at this time.”

Nikki Harrison, CEO of St John Ambulance Guernsey added: “We are extremely grateful to Savills for their support. During the pandemic we responded to the needs of the island and introduced a number of new community services, all of which came at a cost and at a time when many of our normal sources of income dried up. Anyone wishing to contribute to our ongoing work in the community can donate through the St John Covid-19 appeal at giving.gg”

St John Ambulance Guernsey operated a free food and medicine delivery service and the caring caller phone line during the lockdown, as well as supplying the locally produced Channel Island Seaweed hand sanitiser and co-ordination of the island wide volunteer effort. Volunteers also supported the frontline Emergency Ambulance Service at the height of the crisis.
