St John Ambulance and Rescue Service (SJARS) responded to a total of 31 cases over the weekend, 10 of these being to life-threatening calls.

A rescue operation took place late on Saturday afternoon involving a young female who had fallen around 25ft down a rock face at Delancey Park.

A paramedic was on scene to treat and stabilise the casualty who was rescued with the use of the turntable ladder. An incident officer also attended to co-ordinate the rescue, working closely with our colleagues from Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service.

On the roads, the ambulance crew responded to a traffic accident involving a cyclist and a minor traffic accident involving two cars at La Route Du Picquerel.

With the start of the busy tourist season, there were also several accidents involving visitors to the island. The ambulance crew treated a passenger from the Aurora Cruise Liner for an ongoing medical condition, as well as a visitor from Jersey who was transferred to A&E after being injured during judo training.

Two inbound medical charters from Alderney were met by ambulance crews and the patients taken to A&E, while another patient was transferred for further treatment in the UK after sustaining a serious injury earlier in the day.

SJARS also arranged for a St John volunteer to travel across to Moorfields Eye Hospital in London to help a patient travel back to Guernsey following an operation.

Our St John Ambulance volunteers were present at the Saffery Champness Walk all day on Saturday, treating walkers for minor injuries such as stings, burns and blisters.
