A Memorandum of Understanding between The St John Ambulance & Rescue Service and the Guernsey Police has been signed in order to commence a co-responder scheme.

Under this scheme co-responders are Police Officers trained in basic life support who will respond to immediately life threatening calls suitably equipped with an AED, prior to the arrival of an ambulance vehicle.  Police co-responders are first and foremost Police Officers and their priority will be policing. However, if available they may respond to immediately life threatening calls following a text alert message which is sent out to all of our Community First Responders and also the Police Control Room.

The Police are not responding instead of The St John Ambulance & Rescue Service, but in an attempt to deliver immediate life saving skills, primarily CPR and defibrillation, as quickly as possible in the few minutes prior to the arrival of the ambulance vehicle
