The St John Ambulance & Rescue Service had a busy Easter Bank Holiday Weekend, responding not only to numerous emergency calls but also carrying out non-emergency patient transfers and Island Medical Air Charters.

During the weekend the Service provided medical cover at two Motor Sport Events.  The first of these events was Sand Racing which was held on Vazon Beach, one of the islands largest beaches situated on the west coast.  Competitors race against each other in both cars and on motorbikes, completing a number of laps in each race.

The second event was the Hill Climb which involved competitors racing against the clock up a steep twisting road called Les Val Des Terres, which is one of the main routes in and out of the capital, St Peter Port.  Neither of these events resulted in competitors requiring ambulance treatment.

With the Easter weekend seeing some nice sunny weather, many residents and visitors took the opportunity to walk the various cliff and coastal paths around the island.  Fortunately these exploits did not lead to any rescues for the St John Rescue Services, however the St John Ambulance & Rescue Service would like to remind members of the public who intend to walk the coastline, to check the tide tables prior to setting off to ensure they do not get stranded as the tide comes in, and to also let someone know where they are planning to walk and  the time they aim to return by.
