Guernsey’s marine ambulance, the Flying Christine III, has been called out to two medical emergencies in the last week.

Last Tuesday night (3 March), Sark’s resident doctor, Dr Stevenson, called for the marine ambulance to transport a female patient with a medical condition from Sark to Guernsey.

The Flying Christine reached Sark’s Harbour within an hour, staffed by a volunteer coxswain, volunteer engineer, Paramedic and Emergency Medical Technician. The night sea conditions were rough, but thanks to the skill of the experienced coxswain, the crossing went smoothly and the patient was safely admitted to hospital.

On Sunday morning (8 March) the Flying Christine III was called to attend to a female visitor aboard the ‘Saga Sapphire’, the first cruise liner to visit Guernsey this year, who was suffering with an acute medical condition which required urgent treatment at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

St John Ambulance and Rescue Service assistant chief officer, Andy Walford, said: “The Flying Christine III provides a truly valuable service to the Bailiwick of Guernsey.  Our thanks go to the crew who respond in all weather and conditions to ensure the safe transfer of patients to Guernsey.”
