St John Ambulance in the UK has today launched a national campaign to show how to give a baby CPR in a reassuring and unforgettable way.
The campaign which features a range of beloved nursey rhyme characters was developed after new research by St John Ambulance showed that most parents would not know how to perform baby CPR.
Parents told St John Ambulance that their baby not breathing is a first aid emergency they fear the most. Most parents find the thought of giving their baby CPR frightening, and this campaign aims to remove the fear factor to make it as easy as possible to learn.
St John paramedic tutor, Graham Le Maitre, said that the new campaign highlights just how easy it is to learn the basic emergency first aid skills that could save a baby’s life.
“Understanding and learning basic baby CPR skills can be the difference between a life lost and life saved. It’s vital that parents and those who work with infants are fully equipped with these first aid skills – I would really encourage everyone to ‘learn the song in case things go wrong’ so you could help save a baby’s life.”
The national campaign comprises a short 40-second TV advertisement and a longer online song featuring the stars of Nursery Rhymes Inc. who show how to give baby CPR. The tone builds on the success of the previous St John Ambulance national campaign, The Chokeables, which helped to save 46 babies’ lives. During 2015 St John Training Services Guernsey also instructed 62 people in these vital life-saving skills.
