St John Supporters Subscription Scheme 2019

The St John Emergency Ambulance Service would like to remind islanders that we are approaching the time of year when people can renew their membership of the St John Supporters Scheme, or join the scheme for 2019.

As a member of the Supporters Scheme, local residents can help us provide essential services and support the St John charity. In return members of the scheme will receive unlimited free emergency ambulance responses throughout the year, assessment and medical treatment from our paramedics or other qualified ambulance clinicians and ten transfers by non-emergency ambulance under the instruction of a health care professional, where the patient is unfit to travel by other means, for treatment or a medical appointment.

Renewal forms for existing members are being sent out now. The new 2019 subscription leaflets, for new joiners wishing to be part of the scheme, will be sent out during January.

Islanders can join as an individual or as a family. The cost of membership for 2019 is:-

  • Single membership £34
  • Child membership £13
  • Family membership £81
  • Senior Citizen (individual) £29
  • Senior Citizen (couple) £58
  • Couple (under 65) £68

Islanders who are not members of the Supporters Scheme will be charged for an emergency ambulance. An ambulance can cost up to £360. Other charges for paramedic treatment may also apply.

Chief Officer Ali Marquis said “Joining the scheme not only gives individuals peace of mind that in the unfortunate event of an emergency they will already be covered for the cost of an ambulance, but it also supports the ongoing work and development of the charity. Unlike the other emergency services in Guernsey we are not fully funded by the States of Guernsey. Our contract with the States covers 70% of the ambulance service costs, so we need to raise the additional income through the Supporters Scheme, charges and donations.”

Look out for the 2019 membership application form coming through your door in January.
